Mario Duarte was born and raised in Western Illinois and lives in Iowa City, Iowa and is an alumnus of the Iowa Writers’ Workshop. His is a Senior Academic Advisor in the Academic Advising Center at the University of Iowa.

Mario’s poems and short stories have appeared in aaduna, Carnival, Slab, Huizache, the RavensPerch, the Steel Toe Review, and Storyscape, among others.
