My first knowledge of the spot where my ancestors came from was via a page from the bible of my great-grandparents. It had been kept in our wooden office/shed on the Isle of Mull. My great grandfather’s mother, Jane Price, came from “Llyn Cottages” near Builth, a place near the A470. In successive OS maps the cottages disappear. This rather matches the loss of any Welsh in own family.
The wedding that perhaps inspired the poem was in 1856 at St Cewydd’s, Disserth. Jane’s old brother, John, was marrying. And Jane and her future husband Rees (from Cilmery) were the witnesses that day. Her father had been living at nearby Cwm Shepherd, as a tenant farmer. He had been married (twice) in the same church.
