We’ve gone Jackanory for this book by Ghillian Potts, with Ed Boxall‘s illustrations and additional papercuts by Cherry Potts used to tell the story, with narration also by Cherry.
You can buy a copy of this excellent folk tale for children of every age from our webshop – remember to use the code ARACHNEVERSARY at the check out to get £1 off.
Join us tomorrow for Liars’ League books with Katy Darby.
Over the years (five of them!) we’ve published books (16 of them!) and that’s meant we’ve needed covers.
Some of them I’ve done myself either due to lack of funds or because I had a good idea and a photo that would work, others we’ve had competitions to find artists, and yet more we’ve gone back to artists we’ve worked with because we LOVE their designs. (Some we would like to have gone back to but they aren’t doing book covers any more.)
Mostly they are shy folk and don’t much show their faces, but we still want to give them all a thank you.
OK, the books have hit Arachne Towers, so if you asked for a review copy it will be on its way by close of business tomorrow. If you haven’t asked, but would like one, and are a bona fide magazine reviewer (paper or online) or bookblogger, get in touch.
It’s the first time we’ve gone with a matt finish for the covers, and it looks (and feels) really good. Does justice to Ed Boxall’s evocative design.
If you are one of the many people who support Arachne Press with services paid for in books, I’ll wait a few more days before sending your ‘payment’ as there’s something special coming from South Africa to add to your personal copy.
Here it is as last… the animated trailer for Devilskein & Dearlove. Please feel free to share on Facebook or anywhere else that takes your fancy, the more people who see it the better.
A fantastic crew: animation by Nick Page, inspired by Ed Boxall‘s cover design and a mass of photographs from Alex and Cherry. Voices from Sophie Aldred, Greg Page and Cliff Chapman, music from Summer All Year Long, sound recording by Cherry Potts and Greg Page, and of course most importantly, the amazing BOOK, by Alex Smith.
I think between us we’ve captured the feel of the book, which would make any reader from the age of nine to nine hundred happy to read, although it’s mainly aimed at 12-16 year-olds. A perfect gift for birthday, christmas, or celebration of any kind! OUT 24th July 2014. You can preorder a copy here
