Jane McLaughlin has lived in South East London for many years.  She works part time in adult learning and academic publishing after a career in college teaching and management.  She belongs to several writers’ groups and regularly takes part in events and readings. She works to make her readings lively and engaging and they are always well received.  Her other interests include painting, printmaking and allotment gardening.

Jane’s poetry and short stories have appeared in many magazines and anthologies. She has been placed and listed in national competitions including the National Poetry Competition. Her story Trio for Four Voices was included in Best British Short Stories 2018 (Salt Publishing) and has been made into a short film. Her poetry collection Lockdown won the Cinnamon Press debut collection competition, judged by Matthew Francis, and has received excellent reviews. One of her poems was ‘Poem for Europe’ in the New European in September 2018. Her crossover e-novella The Abbot’s Cat is set in an Anglo-Saxon monastery.

Arachne published Jane’s story Sketchbook in our 2020 Solstice Shorts anthology Tymes goe by Turnes and her story Volunteer is published in our 2021 Solstice Shorts anthology Words From the Brink. Jane also has a story in in  Menopause: The Anthology
