Supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England

Arachne Press publishes (award-winning!) short story and poetry anthologies and collections, fantasy novels for adults and young adults including a (Carnegie Medal nominated!) young adult novel, a photographic portrait book, and an illustrated children’s story book. We are expanding our range all the time, but the short form is our first love.

Our books are available as print, eBooks and soon (some) audiobooks.

We keep fiction (poetry, non-fiction) live, through readings, (see below for info about our annual literature and music  festival, Solstice Shorts) workshops and all things to do with writing. (on-line currently). We also video a lot of our events to make them more widely available, and some of them are BSL interpreted.

We try to be imaginative in our events and marketing, and  produce animated trailers and idents, and have hosted an art exhibition for our cover artists – we often have live music at our events too. In December we run the Solstice Shorts Festival, short stories poems and music on the shortest day of the year, on the Greenwich Meridian, with generous support from the Arts Council (at times) and a lot of friends. 2017 and 2018 were UK wide and 2019 went international for the first time.

  1. Hi there,
I just noticed your National Short Story Week competition & I was wondering if you accept entries from overseas (I’m in Australia) for this and other competitions/opportunities.
    Cheers,
    Deb

    • Hi Deb
Generally our competitions and submissions are open to anyone who cares to join in. Events limited to those who can reasonably expect to get to them for a sensible amount of transport cost!
Individual competitions or submissions may be limited to specific geographical areas, or other limitations, depending on funding, theme or other issues.

  2. For Solstice Shorts, can stories involve either summer or winter solstice, or since the festival is on 21Dec are they limited to winter? Thanks so much.

  3. Hi I saw an ad for a Female Indian Voice Over. Couldn’t apply on the website since I was not registered, I could send you my voice samples if the job is still available. Thanks.

    • Thanks Lakshmi, we’ve filled this post now, but may need more people for the audio book of our BAME maps and mapping project, later in the year. if you use the contact form to send your details we can bear you in mind.
