This Place & Sonata for Two Violins

many of the poems and stories we chose for Solstice Shorts this year were responding to the music of Zachary Gvirtzman, including This Place, by Tim Cremin.

Here is Ray Newe reading This Place, followed by Zac’s Sonata for Two Violins, played live for us by Peter Thomas and Piotr Jordan

Solstice Shorts Shortest Day catch up

You know when you are so busy you don’t have time to look at what you are getting done? That.

Taking a swift breather before diving into designing posters and postcards and flyers and getting the author pages up on the website… to say THE BOOK IS AT THE PRINTERS! Oh yes. Going for a shiny cover to make the most of that lens-flare. What a treat you are all in for.

shortest-day-longest-night-full-cover

Twenty-three stories and thirty-four poems, of which fifteen short-short stories and eighteen poems will be read live at the Solstice Shorts Festival on 21st December 2016 in Greenwich. (BSL interpreted throughout)

Confirmed readers so far: Ray Newe and Patsy Prince, more news on this soon.

Right. Back to the designing stuff.

Time for Man Go Home – A Few Minutes of Your Time Solstice Shorts final Video

Video

So here it is, the last of our videos from the festival,

Ray Newe reads David Turnbull‘s story A Few Minutes of Your Time in which the audience is held spellbound, but only for a few minutes

This story is one of 16 read at the festival and featured in the book Solstice Shorts: Sixteen Stories about Time

and Shadrack Tye tell us to go home. A fitting end to the online element of the festival. Thanks for watching.

Our BSL interpreters wish it to be known that this is not what they consider performance standard signing, they needed a chance to rehearse with the performers for that, but you will be able to follow the story/song.

Our thanks to Royal Observatory Greenwich and West Greenwich Library for hosting.

Misty Moon Preview of Weird Lies – the video

We had a spectacular evening at Misty Moon last night. Thanks to Stuart for hosting, and to all our lovely readers for making the stories shine (and for bringing a Doctor Who element to the proceedings!)and the authors for writing such brilliant material in the first place … and the audience for showing up and buying books and laughing so much.

Stuart has asked us to make it a regular date – quarterly to start off with so the next one will be Sunday 29th September, just after we publish Weird Lies and Mosaic of Air.

If, having watched the videos, you want to help Arachne Press publish Weird Lies you can contribute to the funds by preordering or by contributing to our kickstarter campaign.

Sophie Aldred reads Content Management by Derek Ivan Webster (from Weird Lies)

Alistair Lock reads Zwo by Alan Graham (from Weird Lies)

Ray Newe reads ChronoCrisis 3000 by Andrew Lloyd-Jones (from Weird Lies)

Cliff Chapman reads A Time and Place Unknown by Jason Jackson (from Lovers’ Lies)

There’s no video of Cherry Potts reading The Bone Box, from Mosaic of Air because a button didn’t get pressed on the video (that’s the sort of thing that would happen in ChronoCrisis 3000).
