The Story Sessions: Family Tales videos

Here are the video snippets from last week’s Story Sessions, which featured our first poets.

Unfortunately Esther Poyer was unable to join us, but we hope she will come along another time.

So here are audio files of the Flash From the Floor (mainly because I forgot to turn the video back on after the interval)

Cath Blackfeather

Chris Atkinson

Sarah Lloyd

Sarah & Ian

And video of the artists flash, and Sarah & Ian singing, because that’s when I remembered to turn it back on!

Then the last minute fill in reading from Cherry (who came prepared):

And here are the official entries:

Anne Macaulay reading poems

Matt Bryden reading from his collection Boxing the Compass

Nicolas Ridley reading his story Non-paternity Event which will be in the spring issue of Tears in the Fence

Mary Hamer reading from her novel Kipling & Trix

Our next Story Sessions is Queer Tales, 19th February, and features Stella Duffy, Rebecca Idris, Cherry Potts, Anny Knight and Cath Blackfeather.

We still need a reader or two for March: Old Wives Tales – feminist folk tales, retellings or new. Please get in touch if you have something suitable, and are available.

Tonight – The Story Sessions does Family and Poetry

job 1283012 Family talesA6A small reminder that tonight’s story session includes some poetry. Three poets, Esther Poyer, Anne Macaulay and Matt Bryden join short story specialist (and playwright) Nicolas Ridley and prize-winning novelist, author of Rudyard & Trix, Mary Hamer to tell you tales about that complex social structure, the family. Just the thing if you are recovering from spending the festive season with your nearest kin!

Matt will be coming hot-foot from an award ceremony, so may be a bit late. We have a B plan.

Do you like the photo by the way? The girl on the left is my maternal grandmother, Evelyn Blowfield.  her mother is Rebecca Kipling, but despite family stories to the contrary, there is no evidence that we are related to Rudyard. It would have been a nice link, but on this occasion truth wins out over fiction.

Join us at the Ivy House at 7.45 for an 8pm start.

The Story Sessions at the Ivy House

A big thank you to all our readers, and everyone who came along to listen, and to Summer All Year Long for the musical interlude.

Unfortunately the video camera died half way through so there’s no video of the flash from the floor, or of SAYL, and Cherry Potts. fortunately a backup camera was on hand so we managed to capture most of  Liam Hogan’s piece.

here are some snippets of video of the evening.
