Lovers’ Lies (and cake) at Daunt Books Hampstead

If you look carefully you can see evidence of lop-sided cake being eaten with every sign of enjoyment, by Michelle Shine, Nathan Good and Richard Smyth who all have stories in Lovers’ Lies, plus James Smyth (London Lies) and Rebecca Payne (forthcoming Fantasy/SF anthology provisionally entitled Weird Lies) Richard and James both have stories in Weird Lies too.

Thanks to Pippa and Sarah at Daunt Books for hosting, to the authors for turning out on a Monday night and to everyone who bought copies of the book!

Lopsided cake – how can you resist?

Lop-sided Liars' Cake

Lop-sided Liars’ Cake

It may not be the prettiest cake, and it certainly the least symmetrical that I’ve made, but its got chocolate and brandy and almonds in it, and its celebrating Lovers’ Lies. You may be able to recognise the passing resemblance to Annie Rickard Straus’ fish from the cover…

lovers lies fishI was going to ice on Lovers’ Lies but decided that freehand icing writing was beyond me and might do serious damage to my already bumpy icing.

So long as you aren’t allergic to any of the ingredients, you might like to try a slice, it is an epic among cakes.

Cake available for one night only, at Daunt Books 51 South End Road, London NW3 2QB. Almost opposite Hampstead Heath Station. Oh – and some wine and nibbles – and good company from some of the many authors whose stories are featured in the book – I did mention the book, did I?

Meet the Authors – reminder

Aside

Throwing a party, it’s hell isn’t it? The cake comes out wonky, the guests don’t say if they are coming… So not withstanding wonky cake, we are partying tomorrow from 6.30-8.30 at Daunt books Hampstead to celebrate the publication of Lovers’ Lies, giving Arachne’s many friends and supporters (including one’s we haven’t met yet) a chance – we hope – to met a few authors, have a chat, eat wonky-cake, drink a glass of wine and buy a book. it’s a beautiful bookshop and we are a friendly crew, so it would be really nice to know that people are coming! Everyone welcome, but an indication of numbers would ease my sleepless nights. RSVP’s gratefully accepted.

Lovers’ Lies Meet the Authors

lovers lies fishWe are having an informal gathering of as many of the Lovers’ Lies authors as can make it at Daunt Books Hampstead 51 South End Road, London NW3 2QB on Monday 18th February at 6.30 to 8.30pm. There will be a small glass of wine and nibbles, and possibly cake (depending on the energy levels in the kitchen at Arachne Towers).

We hope you will be able to join us to wet the baby’s head and chat with some of the authors. No readings this time, just a sociable get together.

Everyone welcome but please, RSVP via the contact page so we know how big the cake needs to be.
