Poems up to 1000 words.

How you respond to this theme is up to you, and it doesn’t need to be specific to WWI, but we find nothing to celebrate in war, and want a good balance for the book between appropriate commemoration of the dead, relief that it’s over and hope for the future.

Submit via Submittable only, please

Closing date 31st March 2018

  1. Would you want it from the perspective of someone who fought in the war, came home, caught the Spanish flu and then was disenchanted as the Treaty of Versailles proved to be a flop and the major imperialist powers simply went back to business as usual?

    • It doesn’t have to be about WWI at all. I am looking for a balance of powerful writing and hope. I have been uneasy about all the commemoration that has verged on celebration of war – that’s why this is explicitly about PEACE.

  3. Great to know about this publication. I lately realized the end of the call for submission on a friend’s timeline, Ghani. I really wish to submit if there is a chance.

    • I’m afraid the book is being typset, so it is too late. We put out a call for anthology material at least once a year, so hopefully you’ll submit next time. if you join our mailing list you have a better chance of noticing call outs.
