Group of Acoustic Musicians (minimum 2) wanted for an open rehearsal/ jamming session with writers present. (Unpaid apart from reasonable expenses)
Arachne Press are running a two hour writing workshop as part of Walthamstow Libraries’ Word Festival in November. The Workshop is Writing With Your Ears which looks at how live music can influence and inspire writing (fiction, poetry, maybe even lyrics) – but we need some musicians!
The music needs to be instrumental, and never have had words set to it. The more varied and complex you repertoire the better, original work welcome, or classical/ world/ jazz/ folk… prefer not pop because more people are likely to have associations with it that will get in the way of the creative process.
Musicians should ideally be used to working together, and would cover a wide variety of instruments, but any combination of acoustic instruments considered. We welcome both amateur and professional groups, students, anyone who loves music and is interested in collaborating with literature programmes. This doesn’t need to be a performance – if you want to play something over several times or discuss it during the evening that’s fine, we’d also love it if you would chat to the writers in the tea break, and perhaps let them have a go at playing an instrument (not things with mouthpieces obviously), and be an audience for what they produce during the workshop.
What’s in it for you? free rehearsal space, publicity, an opportunity to introduce your music to an audience who give you an awful lot of attention, potential for an on-going relationship with Arachne Press for future workshops, maybe playing at book launches, other collaborative events as we think of them (if you have any ideas, glad to hear them). If you have CDs to sell bring them along.
